2014 Ice Cream Galore [Summer Special]

Hello lovelies,
it's my 200th post today, hurray :) such a cool coincidence! and cool leads to ice cream, so it's all one huge meaningful circle, ahaha! (okay, i'll stop now. but it's honestly a coincidence. and the lame pun was honestly just a spontaneous brain fart, lol.)

More importantly it's SUMMER TIME which for me means ICE CREAM TIME, whoop-whoop! And since people seem think that vegans - or even worse: raw vegans - can't eat anything but carrots and apples and lettuce, i'm gonna prove you wrong, my dear. 

So over the course of July i will present to you a total of - cling on tight - 21 raw vegan Ice Creams. Oh yes, you've read right. I have made all these delicious ice cream creations over the past few weeks, which i will now share with you and your tummies. There will be a blog post every single day for the month of July, until you get sick of it - hopefully you won't. I'm even thinking about changing my blog name to The Ice Cream Girl, lol. (not really though).

Raw vegan ice creams are super easy to make and super good for you: free of unnatural sugars, processed ingredients, animal products, and chemicals. Apart from that it does not require much time, money, or many ingredients to prepare this beauty. Oh and it does NOT require an ice cream maker either! How great is that? So if you do not have the luxury of an actual ice cream maker, use a blending machine, a food processor, a juicer, or even a hand-held blender. I always use my high-speed blender! (this one)

Vanilla Ice Cream (raw, vegan)

Well okay, actually it's 2 ingredients, but the second one is optional, so i cheated a little. It's still stupid-easy and delicious! 

All you need is some bananas and a little bit of sweetness. They call it NICE CREAM. 'Cause it's nana ice cream. And it's nice. And i better stop rambling now and show you the recipe. Let's go bananas! yeah...

My dear little brother and me and another friend of ours went strawberry picking last week! Again. Remember last year

Fortunately this time it didn't rain while we were on the field, and my rash wasn't all too bad either (i'm allergic to strawberries - only externally though, luckily!). And this time we were even more reckless and picked a proud (and insane) amount of 8 kgs ( = 17 pounds!) of strawberries!! i ate at least half of this in just the three days, haha! They were super sweet and tasty, some even so ripe they almost tasted a teensy bit fermented...

A polka-dot dress! (H&M) and a side braid (my favourite way to effortlessly fake an elaborate hairstyle). i'm not a big fan of stripes, but i love me some polka dots. excuse my morning face btw, i just got up... oh and don't mind the ahem "industrial" background... hahahah, i'm such a mess.

5 Centimeters per Second [REVIEW]

First off, 5 Centimeters per Second probably is the most beautiful anime ever (what's anime?), possibly the most beautiful film in general. I have seen most of Makoto Shinkai's works, and in my opinion this is his best anime yet. If i had to describe Shinkai's work in one single word it would be bitter-sweet. He is a master at portraying a realistic scenario that could happen any where, any day, and illustrating it in mesmerizing, soft pastel colours. Even though it is an animated film, it is more true to life than any live-action movie or documentary i know.

No-bake Berried Treasure Cake (vegan 4th of July pie)

This raw-vegan no-bake beauty was made for my friend C's birthday party last weekend, and it was completely gone within less than an hour. Good sign :) 

Remember the chocolate cream cake that i made for Mother's Day? The crust was a little too crumbly back then - so i found a solution for that! Basically this is an improved version of that cream cake + blue and red berries + white banana, oats and coconut to make it applicable to 4th of July!
Use fresh berries - it will look much prettier than my attempt with frozen ones! See the difference between this one and my Red Velvet Short Cake where i used fresh berries?!

10 Things I Learned Before I Turned Twenty

1. When your friends ask you to hangout, and you don’t feel like it, don’t go. Don’t ever do things halfway or do something that makes you uncomfortable. With everything, give all of yourself, even the pieces you never knew existed. 

2. It is okay to not know. Everyone always despises the phrase, “I don’t know” but no one tells you that it is okay to not know. The becoming is more important than the being, anyways. 

3. If someone ever makes you feel less, in any way, you have every right to walk away. You have every right to cut out toxic people in your life. To close the door on people who make you feel bad about who you are or what you stand for. Friends don’t tear down, they build up. 

 4. Loss is always going to happen. Just like paint will always chip and rain will always fall, loss will always be part of life. No matter how much I don’t like it, or avoid it, it is going to walk my way at several times in my life. Learn to embrace it and learn to get closure. 

5. Give yourself a chance. Stop saying, “I don’t think I can” or “But what if I am not able to?” and give yourself a chance. This may be cliche, but try to believe in yourself. When you get older, your knees won’t work the same and you won’t have the best memory, and you are going to wish you’d given yourself a chance years sooner. 

6. Fall in love. Don’t be guarded before you fall in love. You could fall in love three times and still not find the right one, but none of it is going to make “the one” matter less. Don’t fall into that idea that your first love has to be your best love. Fall in love as many times as it naturally happens. 

7. Firsts are going to be messy. First loves, first kisses, first dates, first failed tests, first college class, first time you drive a car, first time you ride a plane - first times were made to be imperfect. Just because it’s messy and all over the place, doesn’t mean it can’t be good or worthwhile. 

8. You want another scoop of ice-cream? Go get it. Get three more scoops of ice-cream if that is what you want. “Fat” is not the opposite of beautiful and it is not the opposite of happy. Don’t let anyone tell you that your body type isn’t beautiful. Beauty is a social construct, create your own, become your own. 

9. Let yourself be alone. Loneliness is not a bad thing. It is healthy and normal. Everyone needs to spend a good portion of their life alone. We learn who we are when we are alone; life is less crowded and more clear when we are alone. 

10. If you aren’t happy where you are, change it. Quit your job, move, become a vegetarian, get a new hobby, pick up an old hobby, whatever you do - make sure it benefits you. Life is too short to not be alive, to not be passionate, and overflowing.

Pastel Photography To Lift Your Mood

E for Emotional Eating

since i am taking the TOEFL test tomorrow (Test of English as a Foreign Language) i am super duper excited, nervous and a little bit of an emotional mess. Which brings me to today's topic: emotional eating (i sound like a news anchor, lol).

First off, what is emotional eating?
The term is used to describe the emotional attachment of a person to the food they're consuming. It usually occurs when this person is under mental or physical pressure, experiencing stress, anxiety or trauma.

When it comes to stress as in being busy or nervous or despairing of a pile of paperwork, i am not a "stress eater" but rather a "stress skipper". However when we're talking about stress as in emotional struggle such as sadness, anxiety or loneliness - or simply boredom, to be honest - i find myself reaching for a snack bag even though i wasn't even hungry in the first place.
In these moments i catch myself turning to so called comfort foods. For me, these are quick and easy-to-digest carbs like white rice, oats, bananas, dates, nicecream (what's nicecream?) and basically anything that's sweet and soft and will make me "feel good".

Painting with Mascara: Marilyn Monroe

After me babbling on about books and films last time it calls for a sweet and simple post today. May i present to you MASCARA MARILYN. Yep, that's right. What you're looking at is the result of me playing around with two pretty-much-empty mascaras that were waiting to be thrown away - until i decided it would be a great idea to use the mascara applicator and the remaining "paint" to make a clumsy portrait of Marilyn Monroe. Yeah... she'd probably be turning in her grave if she knew, lol. 

The downside to this is that first of all the thick brush isn't exactly the most precise drawing tool, and second of all you cannot undo anything, which bugs the heck out of me (for example the shade above her right nostril which i'm frickin' itching to correct -.-) And i don't really understand why some parts seem to be black and others brown because the two mascara bottles i was using were both black! But hey it was actually loads of fun and now i have black spotted hands and i feel like i have brilliantly recycled my mascara and did a good thing, haha! And no, i will not google if other people have painted with mascara - because i'd probably find out that it's already a thing and then i won't feel as inventive and brilliant any more :'D okay, maybe i will actually google it. 

But first let me finish off this post with a quote (not a Marilyn quote though) that i stumbled upon recently and wanted to share:

This book has been sitting in my shelf for a few years, and a few days ago i finally came around to sit down and give my attention to The Future Is Now. Lately i've been delving more into spirituality and Buddhism in particular - oh my, i am not turning into this stereotypical esoteric vegan hippie chick, am i? haha. no offence.
